So many different invigorating perspectives.
Walking along the cliffline from Grutschalp to Murren was the first evening, a friendly and stunning walk to get acquainted with part of the valley from above.
Day 2.
Starting with Schilthorn mountain, we spent a couple of hours taking it all in. For James Bond fans, it was a 007 film location. Then we travelled back down to Murren where for the first time I flew like a bird!
In year one I did a colourful drawing for my grandma of ‘a bird that has been to many places’, maybe because she travelled a bit. I can’t exactly remember. Before I left a best friend gave me a necklace with two birds on the pendant and in Zurich I picked up another wing to keep my koi fish company. Until now, there’s only been one sensation that tops everything and that’s diving under waves, being underwater in the ocean. I love to climb but to have a taste of flying, paragliding from 1700m at Murren into the valley landing in Stechelberg definitely competes with the weightlessness of being in the water.
After some initial apprehension it felt like the most natural thing in the world. Weightlessness. We drifted and got up nice and close to a rock face with the sun on it, looking down at the green valley, white water and waterfalls going down cliff faces. There really is no way to describe it, but I liked a couple of metaphors the pilot shared. “Taking off for the first time is like falling in love, there are butterflies in your stomach, breathing fast but then once you let go and it happens you forget everything”. The other one has to do with sharp turns and I’ll leave it to your imagination…
If you’re in and around Lauterbrunnen, check out the guys at Swiss-paragliding here. They were so friendly, knew what they were talking about and made it so much fun!
From Stechelberg we walked to Trummelbach Falls which literally blew us away with the intensity, speed and amount if water travelling through not to mention how you encounter- actually walking inside the mountain. A favourite was the corkscrew fall, named after the formation of the rock guiding water through it in a slightly spiral direction.
Lauterbrunnen was the kind of place I could spend weeks at, would love to go canyoning, waterskiing, more paragliding!
Footage from the flight! It really doesn’t do the experience justice, just gives an idea of it. I was completely in awe of being in the air for the first time and not really thinking about the camera.
